The magnetic port on top of the HA Show takes add-on modules. Depending on the module it
exposes I2C or USB, so modules can add things such as room sensors (temperature,
humidity, pressure, CO2, light) or a camera. Supported sensors are detected automatically and
show up in the HA Show Manager and in Home Assistant.
The add-on port is open hardware: its design files are published, so you can build your
own modules.
The first time it boots, the HA Show runs a setup wizard: language, internet, software
update, time zone, keyboard, device name, theme, navigation, microphone check, and your
choice of dashboard (VACA, Kiosk Satellite or plain Android).
Step-by-step with pictures: Setup Guide
The HA Show Manager app runs in the background and handles the display's own hardware. Open
it from the app list to see:
With Kiosk Satellite as the dashboard, the HA Show Manager plugin publishes the display's
hardware to Home Assistant:
The LED strip also follows the voice assistant: it shows listening, thinking and speaking
patterns while you talk to it.
The HA Show doesn't include Google Play. F-Droid is preinstalled for open-source apps, and
the display includes a web browser, clock, calculator, calendar, gallery, music player and
voice recorder.
